The Living Book Project

The broad aim of the Living Book Project is to increase use of information technology by older people and those with disabilities or special needs: individuals who may face a range of barriers that prevent them from using new technology. In addressing these barriers the project tackles social exclusion by enabling more people to access information, services and opportunities.

The Living Book website offers comprehensive information on West Lothian groups, services and organisations, and links into local and worldwide sites. 

It also has special interest sections on subjects such as genealogy, football and local history.
The project depends on a team of trained volunteers whose role is to take the fear and mystery out of computers.

The use of computers and digital technology continues to develop and expand.
Having access to, and making good use of, the Internet can have a major impact on the lives of individuals and communities. For many people, this will open up a world of opportunity in work, in education, in leisure, and in business.
Digital technologies are also a key enabler for people with disabilities. Aside from leisure uses, finding work, accessing education, information and assistance on health matters and general social support are all increasingly available online.
Livingbook works in partnership with volunteers (computer buddies), groups such as Discom, the Ability Centre Support Services and West Lothian Libraries, to ensure disabled people are able to make use of all the digital technology available.
