Books on prescription
launched in West Lothian
NHS Lothian and West Lothian Council’s Library Services have launched ‘Books
on Prescription’, an initiative aimed at supporting patients with a range of
mental health problems This innovative scheme allows GPs to prescribe a variety
of reading material in addition to, or as an alternative to medicine
prescription, to patients with emotional conditions such as anxiety, depression
and stress. All GPs in West Lothian have access to a range of
appropriate reading materials to offer patients, including book lists for
specific conditions, articles and self-help guides. Interested patients will be
offered a list of suitable books by their GP which they can then take to their
local library and borrow in the normal way. Disability West Lothian's branch library and all other
libraries in West Lothian will hold copies of the prescribed books.
